The Gardens form part of Emmarentia and many residents have chosen to live in this suburb in order have easy access to them.
Emmarentia has traditionally been a single residential suburb, with some flats near the shops. Recent trends in development and supported by our Precinct Plan, will see new types of residential accommodation coming to Emmarentia.
Since the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand over a hundred years ago, the character of what is now greater Johannesburg has changed from what was predominantly a grassland to what is now recognised as the “largest exotic forest in the world”.
For those of you who don’t know, the oldest house in Johannesburg is in Emmarentia. The Gauteng Heritage Association paid a visit to the house at the end of August to view some proposed alterations.
