Local Routes

 LOCAL ROUTES

Greenway and Braeside Road

These two roads together provide links between the M20, M30 and M16 routes described above, and act as local collectors and as city connectors through the area.

Orange Road / Louw Geldenhuys Drive / Vaal Road / Lower Park Drive / Emmarentia Avenue

These roads are local collectors and city connectors, which enable access to the adjacent public open space.

Thomas Bowler and 5th Avenue via Olifants / Muirfield to Greenfield / Gleneagles Road / Wicklow Avenue and Westcliff Drive

These roads are local collectors dispersing traffic and gaining access to the east/west routes through the area.

The Braids

The Braids is a heavily used local road and provides access to Greenside Primary and High School and an alternative E-W route through the area.

Tyrone Avenue and Loch Avenue

Tyrone Avenue is used as a local road and provides access to Parkview commercial node, Parktown Girls High and Parkview Primary School and an alternative E-W route through the area. Loch Avenue is a local collector connecting Jan Smuts Avenue and Westcliff Drive

Cruden Bay Road

This is a local route, which has become an alternative route to Gleneagles Road.

The use of these local roads by 'outsider' traffic is causing concern for the residents as much of the traffic is fairly fast moving through-traffic, which impacts negatively on the area. People moving to Rosebank, Sandton and other similar places that have large office space generate most of the traffic. Some 'rat running' is occurring by motorists trying to avoid the more heavily used roads.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

There are a number of public transport and school bus routes through the area. The bus services, like the road network, tends to be focused on routes linked to the CBD, and they tend not to create an E-W link to relieve east/west traffic volumes. It could be improved by creating routes between Rosebank and Cresta to relieve east/west vehicular congestion.

MINI-BUS TAXIS

Mini-bus taxis use Barry Hertzog Avenue to get to Randburg and Jan Smuts Avenue to get to Rosebank and other suburbs beyond and are of concern to the residents due to their reckless and high speed driving. There are also a number of mini-bus taxis routes which act as a commuter service to pupils from outside the area who attend the local schools.

CYCLING LANE AND PEDESTRIAN PATHS

The precinct is endowed with wide road reserves, recreational areas and parks. This attracts both cyclists and pedestrians and thus, upgrading and linking of cycling lanes and pedestrian paths through the area should be considered.
