3.1.2 Road and Transport Network

(a) Road Network

The precinct is traversed and accessed by a network of both metropolitan and local routes as described below.

The precinct is subject to a variety of citywide and local road network and traffic patterns, which were designed to channel in and out of the CBD and other parts of Johannesburg. The latter developments of business nodes in the northern areas of the city has significantly changed the traffic volumes and patterns while the nature of the road networks in the northerly and east / west directions have not changed drastically. As a result, the precinct is experiencing problems of increased traffic volumes on roads which were not necessarily designed for the changed capacities.
