2. Establish and promote strong east west linkages in Sub-area 9, with specific reference to:

 

Traffic management in Gleneagles Road, Greenhill Road, Tana Road and Victory Road in support of east west mobility links

  • Restrict access to Gleneagles Road, Judith Road, Tana Road and Victory Road.
  • Promote the use of designated arterials for through traffic
  • Eradicate rat running
  • No non residential uses will be supported outside designated nodes

To enhance existing economic and infrastructure (public and private) investment in Sub Area 9

1. Contain the Victory Park Office node with specific reference to:

 

No further non-residential uses to be supported.

  • Protect existing residential and commercial development in the area
  • Integrate with regional public transport linkages

Development Objective 4

To enhance and conserve natural open space and the well managed parks and natural areas within the context of a Metropolitan Open Space System (MOSS)

1. Incorporate under-utilised open space to form a functional part of Melville Koppies, with specific reference to:

 

  • Extend Melville Koppies westward to Johannes Street
  • Investigate the interaction with the West Park Cemetery as overall cultural and open space system
  • Protect existing open spaces
  • Protect and promote areas of cultural significance
  • Integrate open spaces into JMOSS

 

2. Establish management structures and public private partnerships to oversee and undertake the management and enhancement of parks, open spaces and natural areas, with specific reference to:

 

  • Melville Koppies Nature Reserve
  • Jan Van Riebeeck Park
  • Montgomery Park
  • Marks Park
  • Cost effective management
  • Optimal use and protection of these open spaces to the benefit of the region (active and passive recreation)
  • No alienation of parks, open spaces or recreation areas until JMOSS has been established.
