Minutes of 1st meeting held on 18 May 2006

RESIDENTS ANTI PETROL STATION CAMPAIGN (RAPSC)
NOTES FROM A MEETING HELD ON 18 MAY 2006 AT 19 CHIRNSIDE RD

Present: John Barnes, Trevor Pengelly, Sharon Sabbagh, Nick Walsh
Dick Pyke, Nanette Tredoux

Apologies: Chico Yapanis, Paul Belger, Anne Askew

Current status:

Application lodged by Gavin Edwards on 10/5/06. Closing date 6/6/06. 16 Registered letters sent to residents in the immediate vicinity of site. A discussion was held as to whether the previous set of objections could be re-submitted without prejudice to the current application.

Plan of action:

Trevor will draft a letter to residents giving some of the background and history. The letter would request residents to object to the application and give some reasons they could use, based on the need and desirability of a petrol station on this site. It would also mention that we would be manning some tables at Checkers and Spar on the weekends 27/28 May and 3/4 June. Residents would be requested to write or fill in a letter of objection (preferably the latter if permissible) and deposit it at Books Unlimited, 176 Barry Hertzog (Nanette's business), Spar or at the tables manned over the above weekends. The letters would be copied (3000 copies) on Tuesday 23/5/06 and a drop to Greenside and Emmarentia organized for Wednesday 24/5/06.

Sharon has made contact with Christo Rheeders who would be asked to look at the application in terms of the EIA requirements.

Media:

Sharon had approached Cedric (Rosebank & Killarney Gazette), who would write an article after input from committee members.

Sharon has also made contact with the Sunday Times for a similar article.

Next meeting

Tuesday 23/5/06 at Trevor's house (19 Chirnside, Greenside) at 19h00.
