How have you been affected by crime? Has crime changed the way you live? Do you feel that you are forced to be constantly aware, even in your own driveway? If so, we think that we have a solution.
Emmarentia and Greenside Residents'' Associations have mandated a Security Committee to work on an initiative for the two suburbs. Although Greenside and Emmarentia are located within the Parkview Police Precinct, one of the best in the country, they cannot fight crime alone.
Our initiative has drawn on similar projects by suburbs such as Lonehill, which claim dramatic decreases in crime.
We believe that the security initiative will enable us to live more safely in our homes and in the suburb
.
We assert that pooling our resources will make us stronger and more able to demand excellence. We will be putting the contract in front of the service provider, not the other way around. Through a Section 21 company, we will monitor crime statistics and evaluate the performance of the service provider.
We hope to negotiate better value for your money!
We predict that if we work together for the common good, we will make our community more desirable.
Finally, the less crime we experience, the happier we will be.
There are approximately 2500 subscribers in Emmarentia and Greenside already paying approximately R7 million per annum for private security.
If a house guarded by one security company has a burglary, a vehicle belonging to a competing agency only a few blocks away would not know about it and consequently would not do anything about it!
Competition among security companies within the suburbs leads to failure to share information and thus weakens the fight against criminality.
