Town Houses in Emmarentia

Emmarentia has traditionally been a single residential suburb, with some flats near the shops. Recent trends in development and supported by our Precinct Plan, will see new types of residential accommodation coming to Emmarentia.

The first medium density development, comprising 20 units, is being started between Barry Hertzog Avenue and Linden Road. In addition, there have been ongoing negotiations with the developers of the Schul site on Komatie Road, who wish to develop apartments on this site.  This application will be going to Tribunal (JHB City Council Tribunal) for a decision shortly.  The idea is to develop two and three storey apartments and retain the Shul hall. Recently townhouse rights were granted to the property on the corner of Umgeni and Barry Hertzog Avenue and permission obtained for 7 units.  The property next door is also applying for similar rights.

So, we are seeing a trend of increased densification along Barry Hertzog Avenue and the introduction of new forms of housing in our area.  At all times ERA has negotiated with each developer to ensure that the developments are in keeping with the area and will make a positive impact in the suburb.

ERA would like to thank all residents who help us keep a watching brief on the suburb.  Please know that once a town planning notice goes up on a site, anyone is entitled to object to the development and have a say in the decision-making process. Please always send copies to ERA or ask for assistance from our town planning portfolio.
