The Gauteng Heritage Association paid a visit to the house at the end of August to view some proposed alterationsHeritage AssociationHeritage Association. They appreciated the efforts of the Stoch family to preserve, at their own expense, this wonderful piece of South Africa’s heritage. Another garage on Barry Hertzog!
Do you remember the report that we did on this early in 2006? An application was made to remove restrictions and rezone erven 974, 975 and 976 (172 and 174 Barry Hertzog Ave) Greenside Ext 1 opposite Wimpy and the library to from Res 1 to public garage and ancilliary uses including a drive-through restaurant, convenience store, car wash and ATM.
A huge number of objections were submitted by residents in June 2006. Finally, we are able to report that the application has been withdrawn. This shows what residents working together can achieve. (Note: An application has now been submitted to change the stands from Residential 1 to Residential 3 to allow higher density residential use)
